"Knygos pagaros" is the first book Ana Frank wrote about her mother. It was published in 2005. The story is about a girl named Anastasija, who grows up with her family in the small Lithuanian town of Šalčininkai. Her mother, Franka, has to work hard to support her father and four children. She has an unhappy marriage to a man who often beats her with his belt. When Anastasija is only 10 years old, she finds out that her real parents are alive and that she was adopted at nine months by Pietryčiūnas family. Suddenly the world she knew turns upside down. She has to deal with new experiences and find ways to cope with her life. "Knygos pagaros" was published in over 40 countries and translated into more than 90 languages. It was selected for the International Children's Book Award in 2010, 2011 and 2012. Franko Moilanen sells her book at book fairs and other places where people will buy books. She also does readings and talks about her book and about her mother's life and death. She does this to raise awareness about the Holocaust. Ana Frank also wants to create interest in Lithuania about her mother's books, so she starts writing about her mother's life and work. She wrote five books so far. Each book tells more about what her mother went through even though it is only fiction. She wants people to know that there were Lithuanians who helped Jews during the Holocaust. It also shows that there were good people who had good hearts, even during the war.
